Cedar for wood working has many properties, some good and some bad. It is a wood that has as many more blessings than it does curses provided you can find solid wood. Long thrown to the pencil makers and fencers Cedar has been a casualty of people unwilling to see beyond a stigma.
The Cedar we have locally is rare and abundant at the same time. Since we are gathers and cleaners of the forests we have access to there is a sufficient amount for some time to come.
One of our favorite cuts is the root ball that has been ripped out of the ground by a large CAT and pushed to the side. Many times some of our most amazing grain and color comes from these Cedar refuges.
Even though Cedar is very soft you can't help but fall in love with the way this wood looks while you are finishing it. Deep color, grain that shimmers like pools of water, Cedar is a captivating wood wiith a host of uses both inside and out.
